Ruma Market Insight was born in 2012 out of Ruma’s challenge understanding its network of retail shops: existing data on traditional shops’ motivations and other business activities was frequently limited and basic. Ruma hired top market intelligence staff from industry-leading firms to conduct internal studies in order to better understand the Ruma network and continued to develop this market research function over time. Ruma began conducting market research for external clients with Danone/Sari Husada and today continues to work with top-tier FMCG companies, multi-national manufacturers, and social enterprise clients to provide deep, relevant analysis for trade marketing professionals and branch managers.

Ruma is a social enterprise started in 2009 that manages a network of traditional shops selling mobile phone airtime, processing bill payments, and providing financial services to low income Indonesians. Ruma’s network spans Java with coverage in urban, peri-urban, and rural areas and is served by a dedicated Ruma field force visiting shops on a regular basis. Ruma is backed by major local and international investors including Omidyar Network, Unitus Impact, and the companies of Endeavor Indonesia Board members and continues to grow across Indonesia.
